THE REAL CHRISTMAS STORY

The reason we celebrate Christmas is because it is the day Jesus was born.  When you were born, you were in a nice clean hospital with doctors and nurses to help.  You were wrapped in clean blankets and put in a special bed made just for babies to keep you warm.

When Jesus was born his parents had gone on a trip to Bethlehem because there was a law that Mary and Joseph had to go there to be taxed.  When it was time for Jesus to be born, there were so many people in Bethlehem that there were no rooms left in the inn, so Jesus was born in a stable where the animals sleep.  It wasn’t nice and clean like the hospital you were born in so to remind us of Jesus birth, His cake is very plain and looks a lot like the dirt in the manger.

Bring in the spice cake and read the Christmas story out of the Bible

Luke 2:1-20

Another thing the cake color reminds us of is our sins.  Our sins are the reason Jesus was born.  God sent his Son to the world as a little baby so that when he grew up and became a man he could die on the cross for us to save us from our sins.

            Read John 3:16

When he died and rose again he covered up all our sins with the white robe of forgiveness.

            Cover the cake with white icing

Now we can be as white as snow because of what He did for us.

We are now going to decorate Jesus’ birthday cake and when we put the red candy on the cake it is to remind us of the drops of blood Jesus shed for us to save us from our sins.

            Drop red M & M’s randomly over the top of the cake

No birthday would be complete without a candle.  This reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world and we should let our light shine so everyone knows we are God’s children. 

            Read Matthew 5:14-16

            Turn out all lights and light a single candle on the cake 

            Sing “Silent Night”           

            Sing “Happy Birthday Jesus”
