Just Because - A Letter to Loved Ones

Posted by Erin Oakley on with 2 Comments

Prelude from the author:  "I wrote this poem when I was really struggling emotionally with anxiety.  At the time my anxiety made me push everyone I cared about away, especially God. I wrote this poem as a way to lean into my anxiety, and to finally reach out to my loved ones and God Himself. This poem is a letter to the people in my life that I care about the most, but on days that I start feeling really anxious again, I like to use this poem as a prayer."

Hebrews 19:24-25: "Let us consider how to inspire each other to greater love and to righteous deeds, not forgetting to gather as a community, as some have forgotten, but encouraging each other, especially as the day of His return approaches."

One. Just because I can't stand upright at this moment in time, Doesn't mean that I don't yearn, with every inch of strength I have left, to be able to run free amidst the lush meadows of Gods creation

Two. Just because I can't see you right now, doesn't mean that I don't think of you every second we're apart

Three. Just because I can't do what you ask of me, doesn't mean that I wouldn't sacrifice all I have to be of use to you

Four. Just because I can't endure physical touch from you, doesn't mean that, in this moment, the one thing I wish for more than anything isn't a warm embrace from you

Five. Just because I can't speak to you right now doesn't mean that I don't want to run to you right now and tell you how much you mean to me

Six. Just because I'm avoiding you doesn't mean that I don't love you more than my little heart can take in all at once

Seven. Just because I'm not telling you what's going on with me, doesn't mean that I'd be okay with living my life without you by my side

Eight. Just because I say I need to be alone doesn't mean that I want you to leave me

Nine. Just because I'm having a hard time, doesn't mean that I want you to fix it, it means I want you to be there

Ten. Just because I'm difficult to deal with, doesn't mean I wouldn't give my life a million times over just to ensure your happiness

Eleven. Just because I seem distant doesn't mean that your support isn't the one thing that keeps me afloat
