Covenant for Book Lovers

Mission: To read and discuss stimulating books.

Book Lovers Has Agreed to:

bulletRead and discuss a book, chosen by the group, on the 3rd Monday of each month.
bulletRead a variety of books.
bulletHold the meetings at the home of Carol Petrie.
bulletTry to keep the length of the meetings between 1 1/2 to 2 hours (possibly 15 min. at the beginning for socializing, an hour for book discussion, and 30 min. to pick the next book(s) and discuss any business - this is flexible).
bulletPick books 2 mos. in advance (i.e., the book we pick at each meeting will be for the book discussion to be held 2 months after that meeting).
bulletChose books that at least one member has read (the person who recommends the book may lead the discussion of that book during the meeting, unless they prefer not to).
bulletNot read any book that even one person objects to reading (they are not obligated to explain)
bulletSee that each person has an opportunity to recommend a book, if they desire (this does not necessarily mean that that particular book will be chosen).
bulletTake turns bringing refreshments with beverages provided by the Petries.
bulletProvide confidentiality regarding the discussion that takes place at the meetings.
bulletRelate to one another in a nonjudgmental manner.
bulletConsider itself an "open" group until such time as the membership reaches approximately 10 to 12 members; if growth continues after that time, the group will consider splitting into 2 book discussion groups, with one of the members either volunteering, or someone being asked to lead the new group.
bulletVisitors will be welcome, including those who are not members of POP.  After the first visit, if the person continues to come, they will be expected to join the group, participate in the reading, and honor all the conditions set forth in this covenant.
